Spent.

I have resolved to use things up.

It’s the slow way to clean out cupboards, for sure.  But how else can you test if the right red lipstick will change your life after all, unless you show enough faith to the end?

Or discover if an oil’s magic powers really hide in the last quarter-ounce?

Maybe it’s best to stick by one plain friend until you’re both all in.

If I were a person who lived in this house . . .

My desk would be neat.

My charges would devote their days to self-improvement,

And good works.

My books would be promptly shelved,

And my mail would be answered on time.

I would curate our treasures with style and care.

We would eat always in the dining room, and discuss books by candlelight.

I’d have flowers to cut by April.

And I would always accomplish my lists.

Everyone likes to dress up, sometimes.

As if we needed another one.
